Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro hands-on review

The Google flagship phones for 2022 are the Pixel 7 and the Pixel 7 Pro. The phones are finally going on sale today in many more locations across the world than previous Pixel launches afterbeing rather unconventionally announced five months prior to launch.

The Pixel 7 series can be considered to be a minor progression of the Pixel 6 series, which was a significant advancement for the Pixel brand. To further hone the Pixel 6 formula and make it more palatable to a wider audience with the Pixel 7, Google is content to make incremental changes to every aspect of the device. That has pretty much been the catchphrase for all major smartphone makers this year, and Google is no exception. If that sounds familiar, then certainly.

Updates to the new Google Tensor G2 chipset, which is responsible for many of the new software capabilities centred on the camera, are coming to the Pixel 7 series. The majority of the Pixel 7's modifications come from the new CPU and the software enhancements, with the camera hardware and a slightly revised design making up the remainder.

Certainly not an exciting debut, particularly for current Pixel 6 owners. But it's not necessary. We're here to find out if it is a good set of phones, which is what it needs to be.
